Williamson was born in Salisbury, N Carolina to Lateef Williamson and Sharonda Sampson.[151] Lateef was a football defensive lineman at Mayo High School in Darlington, South Carolina who was a High Schoolhouse All-American in 1993 and had committed to NC Land earlier transferring to Livingstone College.[four] [151] Sampson was a sprinter at Livingstone and became a centre school health and physical education teacher.[151] She named Williamson after the biblical location Mountain Zion near Jerusalem, taking her grandmother's advice to name him "something actress special."[2] When Williamson reached 2 years of historic period, following the death of his maternal grandmother, his family unit moved to Florence, South Carolina.[iv] [151] By the time he was five years old, his parents divorced, and his mother subsequently married Lee Anderson, a former Clemson college basketball histrion.[3] [4]

On July 23, 2019, Williamson signed a five-yr, $75 million shoe deal with Hashemite kingdom of jordan brand.[152] Williamson's deal is the second-largest rookie shoe bargain in history, trailing only LeBron James'due south $xc one thousand thousand rookie deal signed in 2003.[153]

On March 13, 2020, Williamson pledged to pay for the salaries of all the employees of the Smoothie King Eye for 30 days during the suspension of the 2019–20 NBA season, which was acquired past the COVID-nineteen pandemic. He was one of several basketball players to help the arena workers.[154]
